The Start, The Course, and The Finish.
Every race has an identifiable start, a course to follow, and a finish line.
- The START. You can watch on the sidelines or you can choose to enter and start the race.
When you enter a race you submit your entry. There’s usually a fee, but that’s okay; Christ paid the price. You have to respond and receive your entry by giving your heart to Christ. You can’t slip in on someone else’s slot and you can’t earn your way in.
Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 (New American Standard Bible)
There are tons of races so you need to make sure you place your entry to the proper registrar. Christ is the only One with whom you can give your heart to have your rightful place in the magnificent race.
Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6 (NASB)
God sent Jesus to take the form of perishable flesh to live, die and resurrect from the dead so that we could enter the great race and start living the eternal life (what Jesus refers to as Kingdom life) this side of heaven.
The Course. Every race has a defined path. Your path will be unique to the call on your life; your purpose.
Your purpose is: to have a personal relationship with your Creator, getting to know Him and making Him known. How you carry this out is what defines your “course”. Others may have similar paths, but none are exactly the same. This race is not about speed or even how much ‘good’ we can do. Your race is not a competition. It’s about sharing our lives with Christ and sharing Christ in our lives.
Though there are obstacles and you will face opposition, God promised you 24/7 access to your own personal coach -His Spirit to guide you in your race. And He never intends for us to run alone. Get with God’s people. Find a church centered on the Word of God.
The Finish. By having identity in Christ, the end of our “race” is really just a beginning.
Our physical “death” is the Great Finish to life on earth -then we begin life in Heaven.
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.” 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NASB)
Your prize is meeting Jesus and stepping into a life that will pale in comparison to the one you know. Imagine coming face to face with the One who loved you so much He died for you! That’s yours. No one else can win it for you. No one can take it from you.
Are you living or LIVING? Are you in the Magnificent Race? Is Christ and Heaven your goal?
Giving Jesus your heart is the start and it’s the easiest part. You simply begin to seek Him out. You won’t find Him with your eyes or ears, but with your heart and mind.
You can get to know Him by reading the love letters God has given us in the Bible. A good place to start is with the Gospel of John, the Psalms and book of Proverbs.
Prayer is just talking to someone you can’t see. You don’t have to do it any special way -just start.
It’s a good practice to find a time and place where you can be alone. Reflect on what the Bible has to say.
Own. Your. Race!
